Every Fendt tractor that is manufactured at Marktoberdorf is now fitted with a Vario transmission. And on 27 November, the 250,000th Vario unit rolled off the production line. “The stepless Vario transmission is the only transmission solution for us,” said Peter-Josef Paffen, CEO of AGCO-Fendt, talking about the decision taken over 20 years ago to go with Vario.

“At the time, we consciously opted for this innovative technology and started implementing it almost right away in every range and power level. We now offer the solution for every power band, from 50hp to 500hp. Whatever the operation, the customer can always carry out their work at the right speed. There’s just no alternative for us,” says Paffen.

Anniversary promotion

A total of 250,000 Vario transmissions have been made – that means thousands of happy customers relying on Vario drives for their power, dynamics, driving comfort and ease of use.

To mark the anniversary, Fendt launched a special promotion, with the 250, 500, 700, 800 and 900 Vario series models available in the new colour, Fendt Nature Green, and with a premium package of designer features. In 1995, the agricultural machinery manufacturer launched the world’s first tractor with a stepless variable drive – the Vario transmission. This innovation from Fendt revolutionised agricultural technology. Since 2009, all Fendt series, from the narrow-gauge tractor to the heavy-duty tractor, feature the Vario transmission.

The continuous drive for 21st century farming was developed for production in the heavy-duty Fendt 1000 Vario: Fendt VarioDrive is the latest transmission, which features permanently variable all-wheel drive functionality as well as all the benefits of continuous driving.

Massive traction and manoeuvrability and low-fuel consumption set this innovative drive apart from the rest, says Fendt.
