Sixty jobs in rural Meath will be created this coming Christmas in Hogan’s farm, as turkeys are prepped for the Christmas market.
The roles are created across various parts of the business, from delivering the turkeys to the plant, to processing and packing the birds.
In total, 17,500 birds pass through the factory floor each week, with a total of 70,000 turkeys processed by the company.
For the most part, these turkeys are reared on Hogan’s farm in Kells, with others contracted-reared by farmers.
Commenting on this seasonal employment, Hogan’s said that obtaining labour around the Christmas period is difficult, as it is not a great time for students with exams approaching. The improving economy has meant with more people working, seasonal workers can be hard to come by.
This year, the company has increased its overall staff numbers to 60, up from 55, as it has expanded its online sales for home delivery.
