At the Farm Relief Services (FRS) memorial scholarships 2019 – held as part of the agricultural colleges challenges day on 8 May in Ballyhaise, Co Cavan – Jordan McKay representing Kildalton College, Co Kilkenny, was announced as the winner.
Jordan, who is from outside Portlaoise, is studying the Level 5 dairy course and works locally for farmers and contractors. As winner, he will be offered the opportunity to take up a paid placement with FRS for three months to gain experience in the business.
Other awards
Other award recipients on the day were Chris Joyce of Mountbellew Agricultural College, Co Galway. Chris is from outside Milltown, Co Galway, and works locally for farmers and as a truck mechanic.
Evan Walsh represented Ballyhaise Agricultural College. He is from Ballintra, Co Donegal, and works on the home suckler and sheep farm.
Henry Mills represented Gurteen College, Co Tipperary. He is from outside Mullingar and helps on the home sheep farm. Niamh Reid represented the Salesian Agricultural College, Pallaskenry, Co Limerick, on the day. She is from Lixnaw, Co Kerry, and works at home on an equine enterprise.
