Ann Mitchell was voted in at the Galway IFA AGM at the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry.
She succeeds Pat Murphy, a dairy farmer from Ardrahan, who has held the position for the last four years.
Mitchell, from Menlough in the northeast of the county, is the first woman to be elected to the chair position in the county. She serves on the IFA's farm business committee.
She was also campaign manager for current IFA president Joe Healy.
Meanwhile, Martin Murphy was elected to the position of Galway's second representative.
