It has to be said that it was one of the best organised shows of the year, which made great use of its super facilities. Huge credit must go to the hardworking committee who ran an excellent show. Their hard work paid off as huge crowds descended on the small Galway town to see a fantastic display of cattle. Judging duties on day were divided between Micheal Mento and Ian Campbell from Scotland.

The young handlers had the largest class of the day, which led to the boys and girls being divided into two groups. Both classes were hotly contested with many experienced young handlers participating and, as usual, they had a packed ringside audience watching on.

The last class of the day and indeed the highlight for many was the County Shield, consisting of the three best pedigree animals from one county from three different breeders. This proved to be the most entertaining and enjoyable class of the day, with some of the more competitive counties fielding three teams. After much deliberation, the judges tapped out the Clare Limousin team consisting of Eoghan McInerney, John Moloney and Daniel Moloney. As cheers of ‘‘up the banner’’ echoed around the arena, it was a fitting end to a fantastic event.
