Cheffins auctions are well known for their classic and vintage sales. Last Saturday saw a bumper selection of tractors for every level of buyer at most price points - from traction engines with big price tags to nice tidy smaller tractors to start a collection or to put to work. There was something for everyone. Usually there is a strong contingent of Irish buyers at these sales and this one proved to be no different, with many of the lots making their way back across the Irish Sea. The 1907 Davey Paxman 7hp traction engine No 13073 above is a fine example of a classic William Fletcher design traction engine left the Colchester works on 31 July 1907 and was delivered to its first owner, AT Oliver & Sons, Wandon End, Herts. After a few years it went to another local owner, Mrs Ruth Holinden of Flamsteadbury. Passing through the hands of A.G. Evans of Tring and Palmers of East Dereham (both of whom had many engines), it sold for £94,000
