Abbeyshrule’s ‘Drive Into the Night’ tractor run is one of the most uplifting gatherings in the midlands. On Sunday 14 December, the airfield begins to glow from 3.30pm as tractors arrive decorated in lights and festive touches.
The cavalcade sets off at 5pm, creating a bright procession through the village and surrounding countryside. The run supports the Carrickedmond and Abbeyshrule Defibrillator Group, adding purpose to the festivities.
Whether joining the line-up or watching from the roadside, it promises an evening full of colour and local pride.

Concert, Co Sligo
Crossan Entertainment brings its annual Christmas Concert to the Sligo Park Hotel on Thursday 18 December. The Ryan Turner Band leads a lively line-up including Erin Magee, Mary Rose and Enda, Barry Kirwan, Lisa Stanley, Gerry Guthrie, Louise Morrissey, Jack Keogh, David James and Patrick Feeney. It is always a crowd-pleasing evening filled with favourite songs and festive cheer.

4. Merchy Christmas,
Co Dublin
Merchy Christmas returns to The Grand Social on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December, offering a creative alternative to traditional gift shopping. From 11am to 7pm, Irish artists and bands sell merchandise directly to fans, from vinyl and prints to tees, patches and one-off pieces. What began during lockdown has grown into a lively, much-loved festive market with a friendly atmosphere.
Donations support Dublin Simon Community and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and visitors can meet musicians, browse exclusive designs and enter the daily jumbo raffle. It is also a great place to find last-minute presents that feel personal and well chosen.

Nano Nagle Place blends community, creativity and calm during the festive season. This year’s programme opens with A Christmas Carol in the Goldie Chapel from 4 to 7 December.

The Ulster Folk Museum in Cultra offers a nostalgic step back from December’s bustle with its Christmas Evenings on Friday 12 and Friday 19 December.

Santa’s House Express at Palmerstown House Estate, close to Kill, remains one of Ireland’s most popular festive experiences, attracting more than 60,000 visitors each year.
This year introduces a Junior Reporter competition in partnership with FM104, inviting children aged five to 11 to interview Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves, with winners receiving a family ticket and a Smyths Toys voucher.
Families travel by Santa train through twinkling woodlands before meeting Mrs Claus and Santa in the manor. Winter Wonderland Village adds rides, festive treats and plenty of photo opportunities.
