Maura Laverty - This Was Your Life – 28 February: This new play tells the life of the talented broadcaster, playwright, novelist and agony aunt Maura Laverty. Maura is brought back from the dead as a guest on a TV show called This Was Your Life. Maura will cook up a recipe on stage from her iconic 1960 cookbook and talk about her eventful life as she reveals dark secrets and confronts the price she paid for her success. A Night with Gerry Grennan – 29 February: Gerry Grennan is one of the most-loved and respected musicians in Sligo. This will be a very special concert in the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo, to celebrate Gerry Grennan. He has taught some of Sligo’s finest guitar players. Special guests on the night include Seamie O’Dowd, The Old Market Street Band, Charlie McGettigan, Tabby Callaghan, Jim Meehan and many more. Fergus Cleary’s The Island Wake – 27 February: This comedy is based on island life, its personalities and circumstances. It will be performed in An Grianán Theatre, Donegal. In the play, Fergus recalls an island paradise with beaches on both Northern and southern sides, free from traffic and dangers. When a visiting tourist wants to experience a traditional Irish wake, the islanders are happy to oblige, but they are short one thing – a corpse. Neil Delamere: End of Watch – 29 February: Irish comedian Neil Delamere is back fresh from his sell-out tour with a brand new show and he is touring the country. He will be playing the Visual Carlow on 29 February. The Edenderry man, has worked for both RTÉ and BBC on One Night Stand, The Blame Game and The Panel. Tickets range from €22 to €24. Little Joe – out now: A single mother, Alice is a senior plant breeder for a corporation who are actively trying to develop a new species. She is engineering a special crimson flower. It is considered remarkable not just for its beauty but also for its therapeutic value. If the plant is kept at the ideal temperature, fed properly and spoken to regularly, the plant will make its owner happy. Ignoring company policy, Alice takes a plant home as a gift for her teenage son, Joe. The family nickname it “Little Joe”, but as it grows, so does Alice’s suspicion that her new creations may not be as harmless as the nickname suggests. This film is rated 12A.
