WW Doherty & Sons, the Deutz Fahr dealer in Limerick, recently celebrated 100 years in business. The milestone was celebrated at the Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel in Adare, Co Limerick.

Now in the hands of the fourth generation, the business was established by the late Walter Thomas’s father William Walter Doherty in 1926, and started out as a taxi service and bicycle shop.

One year later, the business ventured into car sales, before selling its first tractor in 1935, believed to be a Fordson.

Walter Thomas’s son, James, joined the business in 1963, before taking over its management alongside his wife, Miriam, in 1976.

ames’s brother, Ivor, joined the business in 1978 to manage the stores.

Today, the business is headed up by James’s son, Roland, who has been involved in the company since 1996

The business moved to its current depot in Adare in 1979, with a second depot opening later in Tralee, Co Kerry in 1995. Today, the business is headed up by James’s son, Roland, who has been involved in the company since 1996, before taking over its management in 2013.

Prior to its long-standing partnership with Deutz Fahr, the family business spent three decades selling and supporting the International brand, followed by Ford New Holland for a period of time. WW Doherty & Sons also served as the Kuhn distributor for the west of Ireland for 30 years.

Today the dealership is the main agent for Conor, Rossmore, Samasz and Numac. It is also the importer and distributor for KAB Seating, the maker of seats for vehicles across all industries, including office seats.
