Agritechnica is dubbed the world’s largest indoor, dedicated agricultural machinery exhibition, with visitors and exhibitors from across the world making the trip to Germany for the biennial event.

This year marked the 40th anniversary of the event, which took place from 9 to 15 November at the Hanover Fairgrounds. To quantify the scale, the 23 halls span 40ha, which is just shy of 100 acres, the vast majority of which is under roof.

A total of 2,849 exhibitors travelled from 52 countries to showcase their latest wares.

The show serves as a worldwide stage for all manufacturers, big and small to present the culmination of their efforts in the form of new models, as well as show their future visions through concept machines.

A total of 927 exhibitors were from Germany, 339 from Italy and 250 from China.

From an Irish perspective, there were 23 exhibitors present from the island of Ireland, all of which put their best foot forward, showing the innovation and quality manufacturing Ireland has to offer.

Official figures report an attendance of around 476,000 visitors from 171 countries worldwide.

Although official Irish attendance figures had yet to be released when we went to print, it is estimated that close to 4,000 Irish machinery enthusiasts attended the event.

This year’s event witnessed the unveiling of a significant amount of tractor updates, with lots of futuristic styling. There was also a huge increase in the number of companies showcasing alternative drive systems, many with hybrid systems.

This was mainly towards more battery electric drives, with a noticeable increase in battery capacity amongst many exhibitors.

We also noted that alternate fuels are continuing to grow in popularity, including a focus on biodiesel and HVO as “drop-in” fuels for existing diesel engines. It was evident that more manufacturers are looking down the methane and hydrogen route for internal combustion engines.

As expected, the push toward smart farming through digitalisation is continuing to grow, while AI and machine learning for predictive automated tasks such as weeding and precise spraying are gaining popularity. The growth of autonomous equipment is still on the rise with many manufacturers now on the cusp of commercial production.

The next Agritechnica event will take place from 14 to 20 November 2027 in Hanover.
