Last week’s special weanling sale at Ballymote Mart saw a very brisk trade. Exporters and farmers were the main drivers. The main export demand was for various types of weanlings from €650 to €750 for the lighter types and up to €800/head for better-quality types. Farmers were very active for nice Charolais weanlings, with plenty of bulls around 300kg to 350kg making over €1,000/head. The trade for heifers was quite strong also, with the majority of average-quality 350kg types making €800 to €900/head, with lighter 250kg heifers selling mainly from €680 to €750/head.
