Thursday 18 December saw Taaffe Auctions Ltd host their final dairy sale of 2025 at Dungannon Mart in Co Tyrone.
In total, 57 fresh calved heifers and cows were entered and sold to a 100% clearance. Milking stock at the sale averaged 2,620gns, with auctioneer Michael Taaffe commenting that overall, it was a strong trade to finish off 2025.
Top price on the day of 3,800gns was paid for the final lot into the ring. A fresh-calved cow in her third lactation, sired by Hoogerhorst DG OH Rubels-Red, this animal had produced over 11,500l in her second lactation @ 4.07% butterfat and 3.37% protein, which equates to over 880kgs of milk solids.
The highest price for a first-calver was the 3,550gns paid for a Rosylane LLC Spock sired animal. A late entry, this powerful heifer came with an exceptional udder. The third highest price was another heifer from the same home at 3,540gns and out of the sire, ABS Zebedee. One bull fit for service was also sold. Sired by Siemers Rengd Parfect and with a Profitable Lifetime Index (PLI) of £398, the animal made 2,400gns.
