Piloted with members since September 2025, Angus Australia has recently launched Angus GenetiQ, a new in-house genetic evaluation system.
According to the organisation, the platform is fully operational and marks a major step forward in data accuracy, evaluation speed and long-term capability for the Angus breed in Australia.
It is understood the platform will run parallel with the Angus BreedPlan system currently in place in Australia.
The move comes on the back of a lot of talk about the future of Angus breeding and genetic evaluations in Australia.
According to CEO of the organisation Scott Wright, they have been working on the innovation for some time.
"We began working on this project five years ago. Over the past few months, there has been a great deal of industry discussion about the future of genetic evaluation services in Australia.
'Certainty'
"Angus GenetiQ represents certainty for Angus. It represents continuity and, most importantly, it represents our commitment to putting members in control of a world-class, future-proofed evaluation system built specifically for Angus.”
Mr Wright continued: "It's an efficient system, which will allow us to make changes and adjustments as required, and lets us do more frequent runs."
Angus GenetiQ will be powered by Angus Australia’s extensive genotype and performance database currently in place.
"While parts of the genetic evaluation landscape are going through change, Angus GenetiQ means our members have an independent, breed-specific genetic evaluation platform that enables us to adapt to change and innovate as required,” added Wright.
Australian Wagyu
This comes after another BreedPlan user, the Australian Wagyu Association, announced it plans to launch a fully independent, world-leading genetic evaluation system for the breed in early 2026.
