The Clare Limousin Club held their annual Heifer sale in Sixmilebridge Mart on Friday evening 14 November. Auctioneer George Candler was kept busy on the rostrum as the bids came in thick and fast both from the floor and online.

Buyers dug deep to secure some of the exceptional quality heifers on offer, as a packed ringside witnessed a 97% clearance and an average sale price of €5,120 for the 34 females catalogued.

Topping the sale at €8,600 was Meenross Unicorn ET from James O’Grady, Scariff, Co Clare. Unicorn is an August 2024-born daughter of Bavardage and Eyrecourt Mella, an Ampertaine Foreman bred cow which descends from one of the best lines in the herd. A F94L and NT821 carrier, she was the pick of a Cork-based purchaser.

Claddagh McCabe

Dovea’s superstar Claddagh McCabe was to the fore as he has been all year up and down the Country, as his daughter Meenross Vienna 2 sold for the second highest price of €7,900. From the same yard as the sale topper, Vienna 2 is just 16-months-old and comes from a cow line which produced Meenross Leader, the male champion at the National Show in 2017.

Sean O’Connor from Newmarket-On-Fergus received a sum of €7,300 for his smashing Ampertaine Elgin daughter Monafola Una. A single carrier of the F94L and Q204X genes, her dam Monafola Peppa has Wilodge Cerberus and Sympa in her lineage.

Due to calve down in February to Knock Msport, she was acquired by a Clare based breeder.

Drumline duo

Local breeder James Hannon presented nine heifers from his well-known Drumline herd at the sale. Leading his charge was the cow and calf combo Drumline U 1261 and Drumline A 1382, who together realised €6,600.

Drumline U 1261 is an April 2023-born daughter of the herds stock bull Drumline Macron, a Goldies Terence son. While her September 2025 born calf Drumline A 1382 is a daughter of Shannon Stan. A Kerry-based farmer secured this cow and calf outfit.
