RDS acknowledges 100 years of pedigree sales in Carrick
The Royal Dublin Society (RDS) has expressed gratitude to the Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society for the service it has provided to pedigree breeders over the last 100 years.

The Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society, which operates its sales at the showgrounds in Carrick-on-Shannon, has received acknowledgment from the RDS for the service it has provided to pedigree livestock breeders in Ireland since 1926.
The Society was established by the then-Department of Agriculture along with farming representatives from the northwest to promote and improve livestock breeding in the region.
To mark the centenary, the RDS will present medals to the champion Angus heifer, champion Shorthorn bull and champion Hereford bull at the society’s show and sale in Carrick-on-Shannon on 4 April.

Prizes will go to the champion Angus bull, champion Shorthorn heifer and champion Hereford heifer.
The champions at the continental show and sale on Saturday 11 April will be presented with commemorative medals, sponsored by the Crowe family, Carrick-on-Shannon, in memory of the late Tom Crowe, the society’s veterinary surgeon for many decades who died in June 2025.
