Following on from its record-breaking sale at United Auctions, Stirling, the Simmental breed reaffirmed its position at the top of the ladder in the UK with another phenomenal trade at the multibreed sale in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Not only did it achieve the highest price across all breeds, it also set a new all-breeds record average at the venue of £8,960 (€10,252), with a 100% clearance.
Achieving the highest price across all breeds was the overall champion Islavale Ringo from the Stronach family in Keith.
Ringo's father is the Irish-bred stock bull Coose Lincoln EX 95, which has bred exceptionally well for the Stronachs, having produced numerous bulls over 10,000gns, most recently at the Stirling bull sales in February, where sons sold to 20,000gns.
Out of Islavale Viva 5 VG 88, he came with a massive depth of pedigree and impressive figures, ranking in the top 5% of the breed for calving ease and in the top 10% for milk and eye muscle area.
He was knocked down to W and V Leith, North Crannoch, Keith, for the all-breeds top price of 13,000gns (€15,619).
This marked the fourth time in five years the iconic Islavale herd has topped the Simmental trade at the Thainstone fixture.
Auchorachan
Selling at 11,800gns (€14,177) was the August 2024-born Auchorachan Reagan 24 from Michael Durno and sons based in Ballindalloch.
Described by judge David Barclay as a "very correct and well-muscled Simmental bull," he is from the first crop of bulls by Hemingford Nelson, a half-brother to the 56,000gns Hemingford Prince Charming.
Out of Auchorachan Kay VG 86, a daughter of Auchorachan ACDC, Reagan also displayed some eye-catching figures, ranking in the breed’s top 5% for 400- and 600-day weight, as well as being +8 for milk.
Having been awarded the reserve overall champion title earlier that day, he was acquired by D and A Bruce in Aberdeenshire.
