Comment: Chairman of the IFA Pigs Committee Pat O’Flaherty has written to the Minister stating that the Russian ban on EU pigmeat imports needs to be removed as a matter of urgency and allow trade to continue as normal. Since the ban, some Russian factories are running at only 30% capacity as a result of low availability of product and pork prices have increased 35% to 40%. It is in the mutual interest of Russia and the EU to reach a solution as soon as possible. On the domestic market, individuals continue to report deals. The key to this seems to be to shop around for the best price. Reports of prices in the high €1.60s continue.
