A pair of non-residential holdings in the southeast exceeded expectations, as they sold at auction in the middle of December. Listed with New Ross-based PN O’Gorman, the first of the two sold was a 19.5ac property at Cullentragh, The Rower, Co Kilkenny, on Friday 12 December.

Located less than 2km from The Rower Village, the grassland holding was laid out in two main divisions and in permanent pasture. It attracted strong local interest, with four separate bidders involved. The hammer came down at €280,000 (€14,359/ac). It was purchased by a local with equestrian interests.

There were four parties bidding on the 19.5ac holding at The Rower, Co Kilkenny.

Later in the month, on Wednesday 17 December, PN O'Gorman auctioned a 17.5ac non-residential holding at Rathurtin, Clonroche, Co Wexford. Located just off the N30, this top-quality parcel with excellent soil was in three divisions, and all in permanent pasture. It attracted significant interest and following a hotly contested auction between three parties it sold for €460,000 (€26,286/ac). An adjoining farmer purchased this farm with another neighbouring farmer the underbidder.

Regarding the auctions, auctioneer, Anne Carton said: “It was all neighbouring landowners involved in the two auctions and it shows the strength of demand that is out there for the small parcel of land under 25ac. The market is very buoyant for those size holdings.”
