Planning permission is being sought to build a new 295ac solar farm in Kerry.

Renewables developer Statkraft Ireland has applied to Kerry County Council for permission to construct the project on the townlands of Ballyline West, Coolkeragh and Kilgarvan in Listowel.

It is seeking a 10-year planning permission.

The development will consist of ground-mounted solar PV panels on steel support structures, transformers, internal access tracks, passing bays, crane pads and cable trenches.

It will also see the construction of a permanent operational compound, security fencing and gates and CCTV infrastructure.

The proposal also includes a 33kV underground cable connecting to a grid node.

A decision is due next month.
