I reported last month that Tom Tynan was set to be the chairman of a new IFA/Teagasc pig research and advisory programme, but it would appear that I spoke too soon. As Tynan is on the board of Teagasc, he has been ruled out of the running for the position.

I understand that former IFA general secretary and current FBD chairman Michael Berkery has been put in the frame for the job.

When in the IFA, Berkery was regarded as a strong advocate of the pig sector and his appointment as chair of the new committee is likely to be welcomed.
