Police in England and Wales now have stronger measures at their disposal for livestock worrying incidents. These powers include entering premises to secure evidence or animal DNA.

Alongside this, courts will also be able to require offenders to cover the costs of seizing and caring for a detained dog. Interestingly the new law now includes llamas and alpacas as livestock.

What might be of most interest to farmers on this island is that the maximum penalty for an offence will be upped from a £1,000 fine to an “unlimited” fine. The Dealer is looking forward to seeing how high these fines go.
