The EU Commission has presented guidelines to member states on health-related border management measures in the context of the Covid-19 emergency.
Farmers will be reassured to note that the Commission highlighted the importance of free circulation of goods in maintaining supplies of goods and put particular emphasis on the importance for “essential goods such as food supplies including livestock”.
Maintenance of the flow of goods and services in the single market are essential in the response to the Covid-19 crisis according to the Commission and control measures (by member states) should not cause disruption.
The guidelines were presented to EU ministers of health and of home affairs in a video conference on Monday morning.
