Some 24 farmers and one agricultural contractor were fined in the Revenue Commissioners' first quarter of 2017 tax defaulter list.
A fine of €81,939, which included tax, interest and penalties, was imposed on Co Laois farmer and turf supplier Brendan Scully Jnr of Coolagh, Clonasee, by the Revenue for underdeclaration of income tax.
A Kildare farmer, PJ Davis of Kilberry, Athy, was also fined €40,100 for underdeclaration of income tax.
Income tax returns
Meanwhile, 19 farmers were fined a range of amounts, coming to over €72,000 in total, for failure to lodge income tax returns.
The highest fine, some €10,750, for failure to lodge income tax returns went to a Kerry farmer, while the second highest fine of €10,500 went to another Kerry farmer.
An agricultural contractor from Limerick was fined €2,500 for his failure to lodge VAT returns.
Misuse of green diesel
Farmers featured again on the misuse of marked mineral oil, known as green diesel, defaulters list.
Three farmers, from Donegal, Offaly and Louth, were each fined €2,500 for misusing green diesel.
One farmer received 21 months' imprisonment for oil laundering, according to the tax defaulters list.
