A 29-year-old man from west Cork has been brought before the district court following his arrest as part of an ongoing criminal investigation in the region.

He has been charged with a single count of handling stolen property.

David Hill of Dunscullib, Leap, Co Cork, appeared at Bandon District Court in front of judge Joanne Carroll.

Giving details of arrest, charge and caution, detective Garda Martin Bohane said that Hill was arrested at 3pm on 19 March 2026.

When formally charged, Hill responded: “I didn’t know it was stolen at the time.”

The court heard that the charge relates to the alleged handling of a Milwaukee-brand inch drive gun, valued at €1,500. Detective Garda Bohane said that the arrest is related to ongoing investigations in west Cork.

Gardaí did not oppose bail, provided certain conditions were satisfied. Representing Hill, solicitor Plunkett Taaffe - acting on behalf of solicitor Killian McCarthy - confirmed that the proposed bail conditions had been accepted.

Bail granted

Judge Carroll granted bail subject to several requirements. Hill must surrender his passport and EU travel card and is prohibited from applying for replacements.

He is also required to provide a contact phone number and to report weekly to Clonakilty Garda Station on Wednesdays between 8am and 8pm.

Additional conditions include refraining from consuming intoxicants in public, avoiding any direct or indirect contact with witnesses or alleged injured parties and limiting social media use to communication with immediate family only.

Bail was set with a €100 personal bond, alongside an independent surety of €500 provided by his mother.

Hill was remanded on continuing bail and is scheduled to appear again before Skibbereen District Court on 26 May 2026.
