Origin Enterprises, the agri-services group, has announced the appointment of Alex Steel as group commercial director from 1 October. Origin said the group commercial director is a newly created position within the senior management team of the company, with responsibility for a number of areas, including commercial sales, R&D and innovation.

Sean Coyle took charge as the company’s new CEO at the start of August this year

Steel first joined Origin Enterprises in December last year as head of commercial development. Prior to this, he held a number of senior leadership positions at Syngenta, the Swiss-based seed and agrochemical giant, where he worked for 11 years. From 2016 to 2019, Steel headed up Syngenta’s operations in Europe.

Origin is in the midst of a raft of changes at senior management level. Sean Coyle took charge as the company’s new CEO at the start of August this year, following the retirement of long-time chief executive Tom O’Mahony, who led the company for 13 years. Origin also announced the appointment of Brendan Kent as managing director of its agri-inputs division last month. The company will announce its full year financial results next week.
