After a slew of Aer Lingus flights were cancelled in recent weeks, following strike action and COVID-19 illness, high flyers are being urged to know their consumer rights. If a flight is cancelled or delayed by more than three hours, passengers are entitled to a new flight or a full refund, subject to certain terms and conditions, according to the airline’s website.

Under EU rules, passengers’ rights are protected, which should mean claims are dealt with fairly and quickly. Flights cancelled due to reasons outside of a company’s control, such as the weather, may not be eligible for compensation. Recently, there have been significant issues for travellers within Europe with air traffic controller strike action, a surge in COVID-19 cases among airline staff, and hefty security delays at the airport.

Anyone embarking on a summer getaway is encouraged to know their rights to ensure any issues are addressed as soon as they arise.
