All pesticide users will have to register with the Department after completing an appropriate sprayer training course.

Professional pesticide users and others who apply plant protection products will have to register as a professional user of professional plant protection products. The process is relatively simple and can be done online or by completing and returning a registration form by post.
One requirement of application is that each user must have completed a recognised sprayer operation training course. Some have completed the original Teagasc courses, but did not receive any certificate of same, while many others never completed such training.
Being trained is a prerequisite to registration, so many farmers with sprayers are now asking about doing a training course to enable them to register.

The Department of Agriculture (DAFM) intends to have a list of course providers on its website from September, but for the moment the following providers are qualified to give these courses:
West Cork H & S Services. Tel: 023-8831981. Mob: 086-8508233. Email: frank@westcorksafety.com
Coillte Training and Safety Services, Portlaoise. Tel: 057-8678523. Mob: 086-2603652. Email: Anne.Boyhan@coillte.ie or eugene.doyle@coillte.ie
TMTS, Ballyconnell Business Park, Co. Cavan. Tel: 049-9527542. Mob: 087-9974926.
Teagasc offices.
It is likely that other providers will be available in time. Most courses involve four to six people and are arranged based on demand, so if you want to complete the required course you should contact one of these registered providers. If other providers emerge, check that they are approved by DAFM.
Remember, the course you do must be appropriate to the type of spraying equipment that you will use. Some of these providers have courses ongoing.
