The contents of a historic stud farm will go under the hammer later this month.
Lev Mitchell & Sons will host an online auction of the contents of Clonkeehan Stud, The Square, Slane, over three days from 24 to 26 January.
One of four iconic period houses in the centre of Slane, the auction follows the recent acquisition of the property by Meath County Council, who plan to transform the house into an arts and community facility for the village and a hub for the Boyne Valley.
There are 1,329 lots on offer with an array of antiques, fine furniture, collectibles, and stud-related memorabilia. Included is a letter from Queen Elizabeth II, believed to be a family member, on the celebration of a wedding. Also among the offerings are a treasure trove of historical deeds dating back to the 17th century noting the connections between the Lee-Norman and Beamish families.
In addition, the auction will feature a fine pair of early mahogany bookcases. These are valued at over €3,900 to almost €5,000.
The auction will be conducted online from 24 to 26 January with proceedings commencing at 10am on each day.
Lev Mitchell, of Lev Mitchell & Sons, says: “The sale of Clonkeehan Stud marks the conclusion of a unique and memorable journey through the four sisters’ homes [wellknown Slane landmarks].
“The collection is extraordinary, with many one-of-a-kind items, and we’re proud to offer them to the public as the final chapter in the history of these four iconic houses.
“We are thrilled that Meath County Council will preserve Clonkeehan Stud as a community park and arts hub, ensuring that this property’s history will be cherished for generations to come,” he adds ahead of the auction.
