Summerville, Corballymore, Dunmore East, Co Waterford, is currently generating interest from all around the world. Once home to the Wyse family (a well-known Waterford family), the property sits on 163 acres of tillage and grazing land, and has direct access onto the beach.
Although requiring complete renovation, Summerville is presently appealing to those with an interest in restoring the entire property, with inquiries coming from the US, Australia, South Africa and the UK. The house, gate lodge and outbuildings can be purchased on 23 acres of mature woodland at an asking price of €175,000.
It’s suggested that the cost of the restoration could run into seven-digit figures.
The other four lots comprise land only and are appealing to local farmers in the area. Land rarely arrives on the open market in the Dunmore east area and with asking prices in the region of €7,000 to €9,000/acre, this sale presents a timely opportunity for a local to acquire a piece of land in a truly scenic region.
With the exception of circa eight acres of grassland situated across the road, the remaining 155 acres are primarily laid out in one big block, of which 132 acres are in tillage. The land has been rented out to a number of farmers over the years and is described as good quality.
Summerville is approached by a long avenue that features a gate lodge at the entrance.
It’s believed that the former owner used the estate to stage private weddings and functions when the house was in its prime, way back in the 1920s.
Built in circa 1870, it’s estimated that Summerville House extends to 6,000 square feet and is one of the few Scottish-Baronial style houses that were built in Ireland. Although in need of total restoration, it enjoys a beautiful setting, surrounded by mature trees with direct access onto the beach.
This beach actually looks across to Tramore beach, located on the other side of the cove. The two-storey gate lodge and courtyard (the roof has been removed) also require complete renovation. It’s understood that Summerville House and gate lodge are listed buildings.
Roseanne De Vere Hunt from Sherry FitzGerald Country Homes, Farms and Estates, Ballsbridge, Dublin, in conjunction with John Rohan from Sherry FitzGerald Rohan, Waterford, are handling the sale by private treaty.
Summerville is being offered in its entire or in five separate lots that include 37.88 acres in tillage (asking price €295,000); the house, gate lodge and courtyard on 23 acres of mature woodland (asking €175,000); 32.99 acres in tillage (asking price €275,000); 61.8 acres in tillage (asking price €450,000) and 7.96 acres of grassland across the road (asking price €75,000). The asking price for the entire is €1.25m.
Each lot has public road frontage and with the exception of circa eight acres of grassland, each of the remaining lots also have direct access onto the beach. Summerville is conveniently located just over three miles from Waterford airport, four miles from Dunmore East and less than nine miles from Waterford city.
