A 24ac non-residential holding at Kilpatrick, Bunbrosna, Mullingar, Co Westmeath successfully sold at auction in mid-December. Jointly listed with Sherry Fitzgerald Davitt & Davitt and Property Partners McDonnell, the land which fronts onto the N4 Dublin to Sligo road, as well as a local road, is in one large reseeded, grassland field 10km from Mullingar.
The Greville Arms Hotel hosted the in-person element of the auction on Thursday 11 December with the online part conducted on the LSL auctions platform.
Speaking to Irish Country Living after the sale, auctioneer, David McDonnell said there had been multiple enquiries ahead of the auction, which translated into four active bidders on the day – three in the auction room and one online.
Bidding opened at €290,000 and went to and fro in increments of €5,000 between an in-room bidder and an online bidder before a break was taken in proceedings at €320,000 to consult the vendor.
When David McDonnell returned, two new bidders joined and with four now involved, the bidding reached €340,000.
Instructions were received to place the land on the market and a pair of €2,000 bids saw the online bidder drop out.
Three more bids of €1,000 were received before David McDonnell brought down the gavel at €347,000 (€14,458/ac).
It is understood the purchaser is someone involved in agriculture.
