Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.
Heavy rain is forecast, with accumulations of 40mm to 50mm over the period with localised flooding. At the coast, high seas and strong to gale force southerly winds will combine to give a risk of coastal flooding.
The warning will remain in place from 3pm on Friday 10 January to 3pm on Saturday 11 January.
Countrywide
Elsewhere, rain will push into Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster through Friday, with patchier rain in the south. It will become increasingly windy through the day, with strong and gusty southerly winds countrywide by evening and gales expected in western and northwestern coastal areas.
