The Smyths Seasonal Surprise online timed auction of pedigree Suffolk and Suftex ewe lambs drew in a massive 20,582 views and a total of 712 bids over the festive period.
These views and bids came from all over the UK and Ireland leading to a 100% clearance rate with all lots being sold to new homes within NI and ROI.
Topping the sale at £3,900 (€4,740) was one of the most viewed lots, the buyer’s choice. This lot consisted of four pedigree Suffolk ewe lambs sired by Fosters Six Pack. The highest bidder now gets the choice of the four and the remaining three will be retained within the Bessiebell flock.
The buyer’s choice was followed closely by two more Bessiebell pedigree Suffolk ewe lambs that sold for £2,900 (€3,524) and £2,800 (€3,403). A total of six pedigree Suffolk ewe lambs were sold to average £1,808 (€2,197).

Demand for Suftex lots was extremely high throughout the entire auction, leading to a top price of £2,200 (€2,674) being forked out for Jack Smyths leading Suftex ewe lamb. The consignment of twelve Suftex ewe lambs went on to achieve an average of £528 (€642). A further eleven commercial ewe lambs sold into an average of £374 (€455).
Another extremely sought after lot was the implanted Suftex pregnancy from the flocks top producing Texel ewe that has already bred numerous all Ireland commercial lamb champions. After strong last-minute bidding she was knocked down for £1,700 (€2,066). The two scanned embryo lots sold to average £1,175 (€1,429).
