A good showing of both fat and store lambs were available at Ballymote Mart on Tuesday night, with keen demand seen for finished lots from factory agents present.
Heavy lambs over 50kg were relatively plentiful, with prices in the region of €3.10/kg to €3.44/kg in the main or from €172 to €185/head.
The lower price per kilo was attributed to very heavy lambs above 56kg, while the higher price was seen for well-fleshed ewe lambs from 50kg to 52kg, while €180/head and above was realised several times for quality well-fleshed lots.
There were slightly lower numbers of forward stores between 45kg and 49kg compared with heavier lots, with these lambs realising prices of €100 to €110 with their weight in the main or €3.20/kg to €3.35/kg.
Lambs in the 40kg to 44kg bracket saw prices comparable to more forward store types, though smaller-framed lambs or those with hill genetics did creep down to €3.10/kg, though quality lowland types were still commanding more.
Ewes were a solid trade, with €2.25/kg to €2.48/kg freely available for quality lots, with a high of €274/head being paid for a group of four ewe weighing 106kg. Feeding-type ewes or those with more hill genetics sold from €1.87/kg to €2.15/kg in the main.
