The Teagasc Ballinasloe office in Co Galway is organising a sheep event focusing on lambing on the farm of Martin Fleming, Mountbellew, Co Galway (H53 YD90) on Wednesday 21 January at 6.30pm.

The event will feature advice on pre-lambing management, lambing and post-lambing management.

Conor Geraghty, Farmgate Veterinary Group will carry out a live lambing demonstration along with delivering health tips.

This will dovetail with management advice on steps that can be taken to reduce lamb mortality including pre-lambing management of ewes to maximise performance. There will also be a session on management strategies for surplus lambs.

Meanwhile for farmers further afield the next Teagasc Let’s Talk Sheep Webinar taking place on 11 February 2026 will also discuss practical tips ahead of the lambing season. Pre-registration is required and can be easily completed at https://teagasc.ie/letstalksheep/.

Sustainable agricultural programme awareness

CAFRE are hosting a range of Sustainable Agriculture Programme awareness events in the coming weeks.

The first takes place on Monday 19 January in Greenmount Campus. This is followed on Wednesday 21 January in Loughry Campus, Cookstown, on Thursday 22 January in Enniskillen Campus, Tuesday 27 January in Bushtown Hotel, Coleraine, Thursday 29 January in the Silverbirch Hotel, Omagh, Tuesday 3 February in the Mourne Country Hotel, Newry and Thursday 5 February in the Millbrook Lodge Hotel, Ballynahinch, Co Down.

Two information sessions will be held at each event at 2pm and 7.30pm.

The new Farm Sustainability Payment, Farm Sustainability Standards, Beef Sustainability Package and Farming with Nature Package will be discussed along with discussions with CAFRE advisors.
