Numbers of finished lambs and hoggets remain tight right across the country, which has led to another slight increase in the prices paid for lambs and hoggets.
Mart managers have said that factory agents and butchers have been extremely active. Butchers’ lambs have seen an increase in prices once again in the order of €3 to €5/head. Prices in the main are ranging mainly from €116/head to €124/head, with prices of over €129/head being achieved in some areas.
The factory trade has seen strong demand from agents and prices have improved slightly once again.

Lambs from 45kg to 50kg are selling mainly from €110/head to €117/head, with prices of up to €120/head being recorded at some sales. Lambs from 42kg to 44kg are ranging mainly from €97 to €107/head, with some making over €110/head.
The store trade remains strong, with a slight increase in prices paid for stores in the past week. Lighter lambs from 30kg to 35kg are steady, with prices averaging from €70 to €80/head. Those from 35kg to 38kg are selling mainly from €91 to €96/head, with some sales recording prices of up to €97/head. This marks an increase of about €5/head on last week. Heavier stores around 40kg are selling mainly from €95 to €104/head, up by €5/head on last week.
