A team from Newcastle, Athenry, are putting together a Tribal Fashion Show on Friday 30 September in the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry.
The show will feature the very best of autumn/winter fashion from leading Galway county and city boutiques. These include Willow, Muse By Dee, Suzanne’s Boutique, Boutique One, Declan Rooney Menswear, Love It Fashions, Concepts, Guna Deas, Born Clothing and Anthony Ryan’s.
A millinery showcase from 2015 Irish Fashion Innovation award winner Caithriona King will also take place. The event is a fundraiser for the local community council, which is building a state-of-the-art facility on the site of the local pitch, to include a running track, ball wall and children’s playground. One of the organisers is Cathy Dillon.
“We have a growing community here in Newcastle, with over 190 primary students attending the local National School. As a parent of three, I know this facility will benefit the children greatly.”
The fashion show will commence at 8pm sharp and Mandy Maher’s Catwalk Agency will be modelling on the night, plus there are a few local celebrities lined up to take to the catwalk too. Special guest is the influential fashion blogger Lisa McGowan, aka Lisa’s Lust List, who won best-dressed at the g Hotel’s ladies’ day at the Galway Races and who will judge the best-dressed lady and gent of the evening.
Tickets cost €25 and can be booked online on Eventbrite or can be bought through the Newcastle committee. Cathy Dillon’s number is 086-8334484. You can follow the event on facebook and Twitter by using the hashtag Tribal Fashion Show.
Margaret Healy
Margaret is a busy nurse, mam to three girls and wife of IFA president Joe Healy. Margaret wears dresses most of the time and was well out of her comfort zone with pants and jeans for this photoshoot.
“I suppose everyone has a fixed idea of what suits them and for me I feel most comfortable in dresses. It’s easy to get dressed every morning when all you have to do is put on a dress. It’s quick as it’s only one piece and the outfit is done. When you buy a dress, you’re dressed.
“I don’t wear tracksuits and I rarely wear jeans as I don’t think they suit me. I try and get dressed up every day and I feel good in my skin when I have my makeup done and hair looking well. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t spend hours getting ready – I am out of the house every morning by 7.15am and I do my makeup in under 15 minutes. I feel more confident when I’m presentable.
“Most of my clothes aren’t expensive. It’s lovely to buy special things but it’s not practical for every day. I am frugal with expensive clothes and invest in pieces that I will wear again and again. Accessories are the way to go as they can really change up an outfit. I’m not tall and when I’m standing next to Joe I wear heels most of the time to give the extra added inch or two!
“I always dress up on a Sunday, and one Sunday Joe had to go working and the cows broke out so out I went in my new suede shoes to the field to help round them up. Just because I like to dress up, doesn’t mean it stops me from doing my bit on the farm and getting stuck in. When I’m not caught off guard in my Sunday best, I dress appropriately in my farming gear, which every farmer’s wife has.
Margaret will be one of the models on the night.
