1. Preparation

There is an obligation on insurers to provide you with your current schedule of insurance. This document will provide you with current farm policy covers.

When you request your policy schedule, it will also alert your insurance company that you are in the process of researching your cover and possibly moving to another company.

This action alone will result in your provider sharpening their pencils, if you do happen to remain with them.

When you review your schedule, ask yourself what covers you need to consider as a result of changes to your business such as:

  • Farm ownership / partnerships.
  • Employee status – permanent/casual/voluntary.
  • Enterprise.
  • New farm buildings.
  • Livestock levels.
  • Equipment.
  • Acreage leased.
  • Machinery.
  • 2. Low claims reward

In order to avail of a 30% low claims discount with AXA Smart Farm, be prepared to be asked how many claims you’ve had on your farm in the past three years (excluding windscreen and car claims).

If you are fortunate to have had zero or only one claim, you will receive 30% off your farm insurance quote.

This discount will remain on your policy and continue to reward low claims into future years. It is aimed at rewarding exceptional farm management.

    3. Easy to switch

When shopping around for insurance, it is important that you select an insurer that makes it easy for you to switch.

In AXA, we have updated our process of switching to make it easier for farmers to change by:

  • Using straightforward language to help you understand our farm covers
  • Removing all the requirement for form filling.
  • Facilitating switching over the phone.
  • Simplifying the assessment of outbuildings suitability for storm cover.
  • 4. Competitive online offering

Farmers with up to 80 acres and those who find it difficult to make time to look at insurance, can now avail of an online farm quote by accessing axa.ie/farm.

This is the first time any insurer has provided an online facility for farm insurance, where you can price your insurance in your time, your way.

It is designed for the smaller or part-time farmer.

    5. Additional farming enterprises – incorporated into farm insurance

We know many farmers derive much of their income from secondary occupations.

Therefore, we can facilitate liability cover for many secondary occupations such as:

  • Guesthouses, Airbnb.
  • Food manufacturing.
  • Farmers markets.
  • Cattle bed & breakfast.
  • Farm accounts.
  • AI agent.
  • Farm walks.
  • Contracting.
  • Artisan foods.
  • Farm crafts.
  • 6. Farm jeeps

With over 60% of farmers using jeeps, it is essential that your insurer is uncomplicated with their farm jeep offering.

The premium charged for farm jeeps has often been the game changer and deciding factor when switching to another provider.

In AXA, we insure farm jeeps as part of the farm package ie it is incorporated into your farm package with your farm and machinery, and gets a preferential rating when you combine it into your farm package.
