Trio of large farms up for lease in the northeast

Land leasing is beginning to emerge from its slumber and that is certainly the case for Navan-based Raymond Potterton Auctioneers who has a trio of farms new to the leasing market.

Each of the leases for these farms state that no wintering of stock or storage of bales are allowed on the land. Grazing can commence from 1 March on each year of the term and livestock must be removed no later than 1 December.

Exceptional farm

The largest of the three is an exceptional 157ac farm at Berrillstown, Dunshaughlin, Co Meath. Available on a seven-year lease, this farm has previously been used for beef and tillage farming and is well maintained. The land is all in one block and is sandwiched between the R147 road and the M3 motorway, which runs along its eastern boundary.

The fields are accessed by a central roadway, laid out in neat divisions.

There’s an impressive farmyard included here too. The standout feature is a nine-bay double-sided slatted shed which is divided into 18 pens with a central feed passage and feed rails on both sides. Also included are a twin six-bay shed with double lean-tos, excellent cattle handling facilities and a large concreted yard which is well able to accommodate trucks and heavy machinery.

This property is being leased without entitlements and it’s expected to make around €400/ac.

Moving further north in the Royal county, the second farm for lease consists of an 81ac property at Kilskyre, Kells, Co Meath. This farm is available for a six-year lease and there are no entitlements included.

All in one block, it is divided into five large fields. Described as having exceptionally high-quality permanent pasture on free draining land, it is well fenced for cattle and has a well water supply. It is guided at €350/ac.

The final large holding on the books of the Navan-based auctioneer is across the border and consisits of a 74.3ac farm at Ballynagall, Collinstown, Co Westmeath. It’s also available on a six-year lease and unlike the two Co Meath farms, there is an option to lease the entitlements here.

On the outskirts of Collinstown, the land is well maintained and all in one roadside block. It’s divided into a number of fields by mature hedgerows and the land fronts onto the R395 road that connects Collinstown and Delvin giving it excellent accessibility.

It also has the benefit of a farmyard that is fully equipped with cattle handling facilities, silage storage, a three-bay barn with a slatted lean-to, and a three-bay double-slatted shed with a central feed passage. Sales agent, Sean McRedmond expects this to be leased in the region of €350/ac.
