We have received a lot of reaction from tillage farmers and livestock farmers on last week’s publishing by the IFA of a report proposing that more native grains be included in Irish rations, and that it becomes a requirement for Bord Bia Sustainable Quality Assurance schemes.
The animal feed industry has also reacted positively to the proposal with many open to including more Irish grain in their rations.
On page 63 Darren Carty has all the details of the tillage support package announced this week by the Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon. The much-needed fund will go some way to shoring up losses made on crops over the last few years and also inject some much needed confidence in the sector.
