The annual Kilbrittain tractor run on New Year's Eve saw hundreds turnout for a good cause. Michael Collins went along to see one of the biggest tractor runs in the country.

It took over an hour for all tractors to leave the various yards once the tractor run began.
A big beauty; the driver of this Ford TW-25 let the full might of its engine be heard as it left Kilbrittain much to the delight of all gathered on the day.

Numerous New Hollands; lots of different New Holland tractors made the journey to Kilbrittain including this New Holland TM155.

The grounds of the local GAA pitch became a temporary car park for the day to accommodate the numerous John Deere tractors in Kilbrittain.
John Deere tractors from brand new to vintage were represented on the day.
John Deere was the most popular brand at the Kilbrittain tractor run this year.
Parking was a premium with the main street full of different coloured tractors.
An eye-catching CASE IH CVX 230 amongst the numerous red models assembled.
CASE IH was one of the more popular brands in attendance filling a large yard with red power.
Participants at this years Kilbrittain tractor run register with local volunteers.
On New Year’s Eve the Kilbrittain tractor run was another very well-attended event. In excess of 400 tractors from all across counties Cork, Waterford and beyond squeezed into the small west Cork village.
The tractors were divided into various assembly areas depending on brand. This made for a great spectacle akin to that of a loading yard in the tractors respective factories.
John Deere, New Holland, Case IH, SAME, Massey Ferguson, Fendt, Claas, Fiatagri, Valtra, Zetor, Kubota and Deutz Fahr were just some of the brands represented.
To the tractor fanatic this was a great place to see the most modern and most popular tractors on farms in the region.
Numerous different models from the brand new to gleaming vintage and classic examples were represented on the day.
Great cause
Chief organiser Jim O’ Mahony said they were again very surprised and happy at the turnout this year.

“We’re raising money for the Kilbrittain autism unit in our national school. We currently have two units in the school and hopefully with the money raised here today we will be able to furnish it.
“Every single cent raised goes back into the school and it’s thanks to the numerous local volunteers that make this event happen.
“We’re hoping to raise €10,000 this year with prizes to be awarded for best customised tractor, best vintage tractor, best original tractor and best Santa tractor.
“To be impartial in this, we have enlisted the help of Donkey from Grassmen and Michael Hoey from CountryCrest to judge the various categories”.

At a recent press event, Kubota unveiled a kit that it has developed in collaboration with a French startup that allows existing compatible tractor models to operate autonomously.
2024 marked the 50th anniversary since Kubota’s arrival into Europe, earlier in October the Japanese manufacturer marked the milestone with a two-day dealer and press event in Spain.
Gary Abbott visited the Ford tractor restoration guru that is Co Down man, Stephen Lennon having made the decision six years ago to quit his construction business and restore tractors for a living.
