Monday is to be another day of sunny spells and scattered heavy showers, according to Met Éireann.

The showers are most likely to affect central and northern counties but there is the chance of a shower in all areas, with a continued risk of thunderstorm activity. Maximum temperatures will range from 19°C to 22°C in light breezes.

The week will remain unsettled. There will be occasional sunny spells but a warm, humid and unstable air mass over Ireland will spark some afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the early days of the week.

Tuesday

Tuesday will remain cloudier in the west, with sunny spells developing in the eastern half of the country, sparking off some thundery afternoon showers. Highest temperatures will range from 15°C to 21°C, warmest in the east. Winds will be light northwest or variable. Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy, with patchy rain or drizzle developing at times.

Wednesday

The day will be mostly cloudy to start, with the best of the sunny spells developing in the east. Afternoon showers, some heavy, will develop mostly in Munster and Leinster. Highest temperatures will range from 16°C to 20°C in light northerly breezes.

Thursday

Low cloud, mist and fog will clear the east during the morning, with a risk of heavy afternoon showers developing. However, it will remain cloudier in the west throughout the day. Highest temperatures will range from 16°C to 20°C.

Farming outlook

Rainfall to date

Met Éireann said that over the past seven days (from Sunday 14 June), rainfall amounts were well below normal in most parts of Ireland, ranging from about 10% to 60% in the midlands and west. In eastern counties totals were a bit higher at between 80% and 130% of the average.

With mixed weather on the cards and some heavy and thundery downpours expected in the next few days, rainfall totals are expected closer to normal for the coming week. However, due to the localised nature of the rainfall, some areas may experience far higher rainfall amounts.

Drying conditions

Drying conditions will be poor at times in precipitation, but there will be some drier interludes between spells of rain or showers with more warm sunshine than there is at the moment.

Spraying

Opportunities for spraying will be very limited over the next seven days, due to unsettled conditions. Even though winds will be slack, there will be some scattered showers, merging to give longer spells of rain in places. However, some dry windows of opportunity towards midweek are expected.

Field conditions

Soil moisture deficits remain high in all parts of the country and for all soil types, but some improvement is expected in many areas by this time next week.
