Dermot Tobin of Whitechurch, Carrick-On-Suir, Co Kilkenny, will be showing the German made Moscha Swivel Spout slurry spreader at this year’s Ploughing. The system was featured in the Journal earlier this year and will be on view on stand 203a, row 17.

Dermot (087-2540357), a beef and tillage farmer, says the tanker attachment has being working very successfully in both Germany and Austria for the last 10 years where over 3,000 are in work.

The single unit has a spreading width of 12-18m, while a dual version of the spout can spread up to 21m in a single run. The larger triple spout unit can spread up to 27m depending on conditions. Dermot claims the system gives an even spread with reduced smells and air pollution. He claims this is due to the design of the spout and the swivel spreading action. He claims it reduces the speed by 33%, converting the slurry into big droplets, which reduces losses of nitrogen and ammonia. The attachment does not require any additional tractor power and claims to have a low maintenance cost of around €30 over a 12 million litre spreading programme.
