Life-changing accidents are occurring every day on farms across the country. This is according to Dr Jason Van Der Velde, a pre-hospital emergency and critical care physician who is better known to the public as the doctor on RTÉ ’s Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week.
Dr Van Der Velde is one of the expert panel of speakers lined up for the next Agriculture Science Association (ASA) webinar which takes place via Zoom on Wednesday 17 June at 3pm.
As part of the ASA Insights series, attendees will also hear how responders deal with the scene of an accident, what is involved and how the accident could have been prevented or mitigated.

Titled The Importance of Farm Safety for you and your Family the webinar will last 45 minutes and attendees will be able to ask questions of the panel. The panel includes Ciaran Roche, FBD's risk manager and vice chair of the Farm Safety Partnership Advisory Committee to the HSA. Ciaran will talk about the safety challenges facing the agricultural sector.
From a dairy farm in Co Wexford Ciaran is a chartered health and safety professional who manages and develops FBD Insurance's risk management policies, strategies, surveying program and safety campaigns. He has initiated and developed numerous farm safety campaigns and was instrumental in the development of the online farm safety risk assessment document.
Also speaking is Pat Griffin, a man well known in farming circles who is now in his 30th year with the Health and Safety Authority where he is policy lead for agriculture and forestry safety. Pat has a particular interest in preventing child and elderly deaths on farms and influencing the national and EU approach to farm safety.
