Farmhand, the Krone importers put on this impressive display with a Krone Big X 600 self-propelled silage harvester pumping a wide swath of grass into the Krone ZX self-loading silage wagon. The Krone harvester was the most powerful machine in action at the FTMTA Grass & Muck event this year.
New from Keltec and on display at this year’s Grass & Muck event was an auger type grouper attachment for mounted conditioner mowers. It has been designed primarily for use on three point linkage mowers for use in conjunction with a front mounted mower to group two ten-foot swaths together.

Bridgeway showcased its new updated drawbar mounted grass conditioner tedder with easy grass flow system. According to Liam Fallon of Bridgeway, the 2.2 metre and 2.5 metre wide grass conditioner tedders are ideal for picking up two swaths from smaller mowers and putting them into one.
Standard specification includes LED lights, warning beacon, automatic chain oiler, adjustable swath doors and wide angle pto shaft.
Alstrong’s Auctus 3-metre grassland rejuvenator/Overseeder in action at the FTMTA Grass & Muck event. Paddles at the front scarify and level the ground while the following roller does its job plus blades fitted to the roller aerate the ground. Grass seed is distributed across the width of the machine and two rows of grass harrow tines finish off the job. The Auctus is 1.5 tonnes in weight but with water ballast this rises to 2-tonnes.
JCB had two loading shovels on the silage pit, the new 435S model in the forefront and the 418S beside, both upgraded and more powerful enough to impress the discerning audience.
Kerry contractor and designer Tony McCarthy had his Mach Attach unit in action fitting an Elho windrower neatly between the tractor and the McHale round baler. The unit is claimed to save up to €1.60 per bale by eliminating a rake and tractor plus driver additional cost. The cost of the unit is €6,900 plus VAT, while the Elho rake costs €13,900 plus VAT.
Kongskilde demonstrated the new JF FCT 1460 harvester for the first time in Ireland this week. The machine is rated to take up to 400hp and the 390hp New Holland T8.390 fitted the bill. The harvester has a 3.1m wide pick-up, with full hydraulic controls rather than electrics. The list price is €89,000 incl. VAT.
Kverneland showed their new 9590C twin rotor rake at the event. This rake gives high under-beam clearance and can be used to row up to 9 metres of grass. The list price of this new rake is €15,515 plus VAT.
Brand new for Tumosan and only just launched in its home country of Turkey, is the new Tumosan Maxima 9115. Michael Brogan of Tumosan Tractors Ireland Ltd explained that this is a completely new tractor and part of the new, three-model Maxima series of 9105, 9115 and 9125.
The Maxima uses a Fiat derived engine, now with turbocharger and intercooler to develop 115hp and currently meets Tier 3A emission regulations. Michael said that he will be bringing in its smaller and larger siblings later in
New Holland celebrates 50 year production at its Basildon facility in the UK and in conjunction with Irish Blue Force operated a Ford 7000 tractor and New Holland 339 double-chop harvester at the FTMTA Grass and Muck event. This was sandwiched between a New Holland FR700 self-propelled silage harvester and the new JF FCT1460 trailed harvester pulled by a New Holland T8.390 owned by Country Crest Foods.
