Holstein bulls sell for up to 3,700gns
Prices hit a peak of 3,700gns at last week’s annual spring sale of pedigree Holstein bulls, hosted by Taaffe Auctions at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart.
The top-priced bull, bred by Robbie and Stuart Smith of Co Derry, was purchased by WJ Presho from Ballyrush, Comber, Co Down.
The second highest price of 3,500gns was paid twice, to the McLean family, Co Tyrone, and to Sam and John McCormick from Bangor.
The supreme champion went to Harry Patton and sons, Newtownards, which sold for 3,300gns. Next best at 3,100gns was a bull from Jim and James Stevenson from Kilkeel.
The reserve champion, bred by the McLean family, sold for 1,700gns. Auctioneer Michael Taaffe confirmed a 75% clearance with 25 bulls selling for £2,340 – an increase of £368 on the same sale last year.
