IFA national sheep chair John Lynskey met senior officials in the Department of Agriculture this week on the problem of dog attacks on sheep flocks and the need for more action on responsible dog ownership.
The Department confirmed that it estimates up to 85% of all dogs are now micro-chipped.
They will intensify their campaign on microchipping over the coming months.
Lynskey said the IFA is very supportive of a strong campaign on micro-chipping and responsible dog ownership.
The IFA wants one central database to oversee control in this area and maximise the benefits of micro-chipping, and to keep costs to a minimum.#
