The Department of Agriculture has confirmed that all 2,862 farmers who received letters warning them they were set to miss replacement female targets this year are in BDGP I.
This means they are in line for a higher rate of penalty, because half of their herd is required to be made up of four and five €uro-Star heifers or cows by 30 October 2020.
Farmers in the later scheme, BDGP II, are only required to have 20% of four or five €uro-Star females by the same time.
For missing the replacement female target, farmers face a clawback per year, plus an additional 20% penalty.
A farmer in the scheme since 2015 would incur an average penalty of €2,119 in 2020.
