The average price paid for a Friesian bull calf strengthened by about €20 to €30/head in the last week. Strong exporter demand, combined with lower numbers of Friesians on offer, have been the main drivers of the higher prices.
In addition, more settled weather and a steady flow of calves leaving the country have also been positives.
The majority of Friesian calves on offer are three-week-olds and are selling from €60 to €70/head, while light two-week-old calves are making the lower prices of €30 to €50/head.

The average price paid for Angus and Hereford heifers have eased slightly also, but only by €4 to €5/head. The average Angus heifer is making just over €90/head, while Herefords are averaging €134/head.
