Beef quotes remain steady this week, with tight supplies of finishing cattle underpinning the price. Bullocks are working off a base price of €7-€7.10/kg, with heifers coming in at €7.10-€7.20/kg base price. The 2026 cattle kill is already over 30,000 head behind last year, with last week’s kill back 4,500 head on the previous week.
The mart trade continues to out-perform factory returns, with cull cows hitting well over €4/kg this week in marts, with a beef price of well over €7.50/kg needed for these cows to break even. Prices are steady in Northern Ireland with quotes unchanged from last week. U3 animals are working off a beef price of £6.46-£6.50/kg (€7.76- €7.80/kg including VAT).
The NI beef price is currently running 20-30c/kg ahead of the British price, which has been under some pressure in the last two weeks.
