Having delivered two clears for team Miami Glory, Denis Lynch and RMF Echo made the cut of 25 to contest the €300,000 Global Champions Grand Prix in Madrid last weekend.
The partnership looked set to make it three clears in a row as they took on Santiago Varela Ullastres’ demanding track. But, Echo dragged a pole from the last to leave Lynch one of 11 four faulters. Had they gone clear they would have been in a six horse jump-off for a first prize of €99,000. They ended eighth overall for a gain of €7,500.
Kent Farrington won with the Kashmir van Schuttershof mare Gazelle who is out of an Indoctro dam. Neither Bertram Allen, Darragh Kenny or Michael Kearins made the cut after the qualifying round. That was also the second round of the Global Champions League which was won by the Cannes Stars team of Ludger Beerbaum and Marco Kutscher. Alberto Zorzi and Marcus Ehning rode for Bertram Allen’s Valkenswaard United team and placed eighth. This gained them just enough points to retain the overall lead by seven points.
